Named for a main character in a novel his mother was reading during her pregnacy (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austen). Taught school in Alabama before moving to Macon.Six feet tall and over 200 lbs. Enlisted in Noxubee Rifles, 2-24-1861 and served on MS Gulf Coast. It became Co. F, 11th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, CSA. Much of the records in the Masonic Lodge, #40, in Macon, during the 1860's are in his handwriting. Petitioning member Royal Arch Chapter #11. Republican. Nearly 50 years old when his first childwas born. Listed in the Census of 1840. The 1850 Census lists him living alone in house #4, 34 year old male, Lawyer, property valued at $4,000, born in Ohio. (He was actually 37 at the time.) The Slave Schedule of 1860 lists him living in Macon (instead of one of the Districts of the County) and the owner of 2 slaves. They were siblings, George and Edna.
