This is an interesting and useful little map that shows where our family members lived, at least according to the telephone book in 1990.
There are other distributions as well, according to the census for 1850, 1880, and 1920.

For a list of actual places that bear our family's name, go the the GNIS file. As the Feature Name, enter McVey or one of the other spellings, then press "Send Query". Select a place and then you will also have access to two maps. The second one, which is the one you want, tends to load slowly so be patient. And of course, when all else fails, read the instructions.
