To all to whom these Presents shall come, Greeting:

Whereas (Name) has deposited in the GENERAL LAND OFFICE of the United States, a Certificate of the REGISTER OF THE LAND OFFICE at (Place), whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said (Name), according to the provisions of the Act of Congress of the 24th of April, 1820, entitled "An act making furher provision for the sale of the Public Lands", for (Description) according to the official plat of the survey of the said Lands, returned to the General Land Office by the SURVEYOR GENERAL, which said tract has been purchased by the said (Name),

NOW KNOW YE, that the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in consideration of the Premises, and in conformity with the several acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, HAS GIVEN AND GRANTED, and by these Presents, DO GIVE AND GRANT, unto the said (Name) and to his heirs, the said tract above described: TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the same, together with all the rights, priveleges, immunities, and appurtenances of whatever nature, thereunto belonging, unto the said (Name) and to (his) heirs and assigns forever.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I, (Martin Van Buren) PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, have caused these letters to be made PATENT, and the SEAL of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be herunto affixed.

GIVEN under my hand, at the CITY OF WASHINGTON, the (day) day of (Month) in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and (forty-one) and of the INDEPENDENCE OF THE UNITED STATES, the (sixty fifth).

The basic form is printed on very heavy paper (parchment ?) and the parts in parenthesis were handwritten. The Seal, about 2.5 inches in diameter, is of a sun-burst design with an eagle above a plow and the words "United States General Land Office" around the perimeter. Though badly faded, the seals seem to have been red.

DESCRIPTION: Land is described in quarters and half of Sections which are located by numbered Townships (North and South) and by Range (East and West) from certain Baselines and Meridians.

In (1) for example, the land is described as: "the south east quarter of Section twenty-six, in Township fifteen North, of Range sixteen East in the District of Lands subject to Sale at Columbus, Mississippi, containing one hundred and sixty acres, and forty-five hundredths of an acre."

In (10) the description reads: "the west half of the southwest quarter in Section 27, in Township fifteen North of Range sixteen East in the District of Lands subject to Sale at Columbus, Mississippi, containing eighty acres, and seven hundredths of an acre." It is dated 27 Feb. 1841, in the 65th year of our Republic, and is recorded in Volume 10, page 317. The Certificate is #7425 and is marked "Pre-emption".
