The Register is an
attempt to record the name and basic data about every person named
Spann who has lived in the United
States.
From the Register you can distinguish between persons with the same name,
find their parents, spouse(s), children,
the dates and places of their birth, marriage, death, and
link to the main references, family sheets, and other
sources.
The Register is limited to those with Spann as their surname at birth,
or else was the spouse or child of a Spann.
Grandchildren with a different surname are not included.
Siblings in the same family often spelled their name
differently,
so consider the variations when searching.
The Register is a .txt file so it has no links. Suppose you want information about James Spann.
First is James' ID number which is 0058. Everything in this website that pertains to him
will begin with that number. Actually, you'll find several James Spann, each with a separate ID. That's how we keep
them straight. Everybody has a different ID number but they all work the sameway.
From that same line you can use FIND to go to James' FATHER whose ID is 0116 and James' SPOUSE whose
number is 0059.
Then James' MOTHER can be found as the spouse of his father. Her number is 0117. James' CHILDREN
can be identified by finding his ID (0058) in their F column, indicating that he is their father.
A plus sign (+) just beside his ID indicates "more". More information about James is at
http://john.rootsweb.com/Spann/0058-f.html
You might like to bookmark this URL http://john.rootsweb.com/Spann/####-f.html to use with
other names. For someone else, if they have an ID+, then substitute their ID instead of the "####" but in exactly the
same URL. If there's no + after the ID, then there's no more information available, besides what's here. Can you
supply some?
If there's a plus after his Spouse's ID (not the case here) it means he had more than one wife. You could find his
ID in her S column to locate the other spouse's name(s) and information. Here his ID (0058) will appear only in the
S column for his wife at 0059.
For women, when there's an ID+ (suggesting more information about her), that information is also on their family page.
There's only a single listing for the whole family unit, so use her husband's ID. You'll find his ID in her Spouse or
"S" column.
The Ref. or reference column indicates the source of the information. And finally,
the letters A and T indicate an adoption or a twin/triplet.
So, if we translate this single line of code into text, together with its link, we learn that: James Spann (0058)
was born in Northampton District, North Carolina, in 1757. His parents were Richard Spann and Sarah Stuart.
This works the same way for all of the names on the Register. To add others or for questions or
