There are a number of Yates lines, based on their immigrants to the United States. Many of them are here together and can be traced out separately. One prominant line came from Wales with William Yates (7153) as their progenitor. There are many of unknown origin, such as Thomas Yates (224). Perhaps you can help sort all this out

7 - ANNIE ELLA YATES (F=14) was born in Macon, Mississippi on March 1, 1866. She was the daughter of Robert Eliott Valentine Yates and Ella Alice Rosser. On November 8, 1882, she married John Fisher Ames in Macon, Mississippi, Rev. John H. Scruggs officiating. Fisher was in the first graduating class at Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Mississippi State University) in 1871. (R06456) Photo. Annie Ella died in Macon on March 21, 1897, and was buried there in Odd Fellows Cemetery. After her death, Fisher married his cousin, Frances Eliza "Fannie" Minor in 1898. They had one child, William Minor Ames, born in Macon the next April. They lived apart from 1920 until their deaths. The children of Annie Ella and Fisher were all born in Macon. 14 - ROBERT ELLIOT VALENTINE YATES (F=28) was born in 1835, the son of Robert Eliot Yates and Annie Eliza Jennings Spann. On August 18, 1854 he married Ella Alice Rosser in Macon, Mississippi. She was born in Camden, SC, on March 11, 1841, and had been brought to Mississippi by her half brother William Bracey, in 1851. Her parents were William Rosser and Martha Elizabeth Langstaff. Ella died in Macon on September 30, 1926, at the age of 72, and is buried there in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Robert was known as Dr. Yates in the days when the lines between pharmacist and physician were not clearly drawn. They were among the founding members of the Episcopal 'Church of the Holy Nativity' in Macon. He died in 1876 at the age of 41 and is also buried in Odd Fellows Cemetery. In her Will, Ella left everything to their son. Their first four children died in infancy and Annie Ella had died in 1897. Click to view his Pedigree and hers. Their children were:

28 - ROBERT ELIOT YATES (F=56) was born in Baltimore, MD, in 1789, the son of John Yates and Eleanor Mitchell. On January 2 1826, he married Anna Eliza Jennings Spann in Sumter, SC. She was born in 1803, the daughter of James Spann and Anna Elizabeth Jennings. She died in Macon, MS, in January 1886 at the age of 83, and is buried there. Robert was a Major in the KY Mounted Militia in the War of 1812. He was a Representative from Grayson County to KY Legislature 1814, Captain, 1st Regiment, KY, War of 1812. Party in law suit 1813-1818 re steamboat. See his letter about his trip from KY, down the River, through Mississippi and back to SC. Her funeral notice. He died in1856. Their children were:

7235. ROBERT ELLIOTT VALENTINE YATES (F=0014) was born in 1868 in Macon, MS, the son of Robert Elliott Valentine Yates and Ella Alice Rosser. On January 1, 1896, he married Lillian Hardin, the daughter of Charles Hardin and Pamelia Faser. Val died in 1960 and Lillie made her home with their daughter in Jackson, MS, until her death on August 17, 1962. (R05118.2) He was 92. Both were active in the local Methodist Church and both were buried in Odds Fellows Cemetery, Macon. Their children were:
