THE YATES REGISTER

The Register is an attempt to record the name and basic data about every person named
Yates who has lived in the United States.

From the Register you can distinguish between persons with the same name,
find their parents, spouse(s), children, the dates and places of their birth, marriage, death, and
link to the main references, family sheets, and other sources.

The Register is limited to those with a Yates equivalent as their surname at birth,
or else was their spouse or child. Grandchildren with a different surname are not included.
Siblings in the same family often spelled their name differently,
so consider the variations when searching.

The Register is a .txt file so it has no links.

HOW TO FIND....

Suppose you want information about Robert Yates.
Go to the Register and use your "Find" function - either Edit/Find or CTL+F.
Of those listed, let's say you choose this one:

 ID | Name | F | Born In| Died In| S | Married In| Ref.
----|---------------|----|-------------|-------------|----|-------------|-----
0014+Yates, Robert |0028|04.25.1835-MD|04.21.1876-MS|0015|07.18.1854-SC|02070

First is Robert's ID number which is 0014. Everything in this website that pertains to him will begin with that number. Actually, you'll find several Robert Yates, each with a separate ID. That's how we keep them straight. Everybody has a different ID number but they all work the same way.

From that same line you can use FIND to go to Robert's FATHER whose ID is 0028 and Robert's SPOUSE whose number is 0015.

Then Robert's MOTHER can be found as the spouse of his father. Her number is 0029.

Robert's CHILDREN can be identified by finding his ID (0014) in their F column, indicating that he is their father.

A plus sign (+) just beside his ID indicates "more". More information about Robert is at http://john.rootsweb.com/Yates/0014-f.html

You might like to bookmark this URL http://john.rootsweb.com/Yates/####-f.html to use with other names. For someone else, if they have an ID+, then substitute their ID instead of the "####" but in exactly the same URL. If there's no + after the ID, then there's no more information available, besides what's here. Can you supply some?

If there's a plus after his Spouse's ID (not the case here) it means he had more than one wife. You could find his ID in her S column to locate the other spouse's name(s) and information. Here his ID (0014) will appear only in the S column for his wife at 0015.

For women, when there's an ID+ (suggesting more information about her), that information is also on their family page. There's only a single listing for the whole family unit, so use her husband's ID. You'll find his ID in her Spouse or "S" column.

The Ref. or reference column indicates the source of the information.

And finally, the letters A and T indicate an adoption or a twin or triplet.

So, if we translate this single line of code into text, we learn that:

Robert Yates (0014) was born in Maryland, on the 25th of April, 1835. He was the son of Robert Eliot Yates (0028) and Annie Eliza Jennings Spann (0029). Robert married Ella Alice Rosser (0015) on the 18th of July, 1854. They had six children: William (7425), Mary Ella (7426), Robert Eliot (7427), Lawrence Quintard (7428), Annie Ella (0007), and Robert Elliott Valentine (7235). Their first four died as children.

Robert Yates died in Macon, Mississippi, on the 21st of April, 1876, just 4 days before his 41st birthday. His wife Ella lived until 1926.

Still more details are available on their family page at http://john.rootsweb.com/Yates/0014-f.html. We found much of this information from the genealogical notes of his grandson, Charles Fisher Ames. (1041). Other sources, photographs, pedigrees, etc. are listed on their Family Page.

If this is really more than you wanted to know, just disregard it and enjoy whatever may be helpful. This same process works the same way for all of them. If you have questions or comments, an email should get a prompt reply.
